Abstracted Flora
April 1, 2, 3, 2027 | 9:30am - 4:30pm
Three-Day Workshop
Instructor Kasey Moran
Studio Artiste, Wilmington, NC
Tuition $550

Workshop Description
In this 3 day workshop, we will be working with flora from your photo references and sketches,
focusing on building shapes, using negative space and building our compositions. We will dive
into responding to the subject by sketching what inspires us to help us start work on our
canvases. This will be a class on loosening our approach, creating shapes, layers and finding
what feels essential to our responses. Bring your curiosity, your love of plants and flowers and
let’s paint!
Abstracted Flora Supply List
I am a huge fan of using what you have on hand however I have listed the supplies I used in
this course.
I will be demonstrating in acrylics.
Sketchbook
Pencil or pen
12 x12in. Up to 20x20 inches. Cradled wooden panels or canvas
If you prefer working on paper, this is what I recommend.
140# or 300 # Fabriano or Arches hot press watercolor paper.
I like hot press because it is a smooth paper.
Please have at least 3 surfaces to work on as we will do multiple pieces.
Acrylic paints
Golden glazing liquid or Golden Open acrylic medium
Stabilo woody in black or dark color, ink, acrylics, anything water soluble. You don’t need all
these things. One will suffice.
Various sizes of paint brushes
A few Painting knives, medium to larger size. Not tiny detail knives.
Colour Shapers. 1-2 inches wide. I prefer the firm.
Container for water
Because of traveling, I highly recommend working in acrylics because of drying time and
packing your work to travel back with you.
Here is the list for oils when you’re back to your studio.
Oil paints
R&F Pigment sticks ( I do not recommend oil pastels because they never dry)
You only need a few colors.
Linseed oil
Gamsol
Pencil
Stabilo woody in black
Various sizes of paint brushes.
Color shapers 1 -2 inches wide.
Painting knives.
